3rd September

This month we had a Seaparker finish in first place at every Carrickfergus parkrun.

Richard Craig was 1st to finish on 3rd September. He was followed by Charlie McCormick, William Jenkins, Paul Daniels, Gavin Irvine, Robert Steele, Emily Smiley, Colin McCrum, Catherine Steele & Karen McMaster.

Four people finished their 22 NI parkrun challenge this month, the first of which was Karen Waring at Larne.

Gillian Strudwick was the first Seaparker to finish (with a course PB of 23:45). After her came Andrew Smyth (course PB of 25:02), Karen Waring (who finished the 22 challenge with a course PB of 27:41), Nikita Murray (1st run at Larne), Trevor Lamb, Alison Welsh (course PB of 29:45), Neill Harper (and Oska), Glenda Murray & Geraldine Kane (1st run at Larne).

At Limavady there was Richard Hetherington (with a parkrun PB of 19:26) and Allan Grant (1st run at Limavady).

Philip Poag got a course PB of 25:58 at Valley. Also in attendance where Julie-Ann Mitchell (1st run at Valley ) and Karen Poag.

10th September

Ian Cleland was 1st to finish at Carrickfergus on 10th. Following him where William Jenkins, Robert Murray (course PB of 19:57), Jonathon Bell, Paul Daniels, Jennifer Jackson, Derek Kane, Colin McCrum, Karen McMaster, Julie-Ann Mitchell, Lindsay Roberts (parkrun PB of 30:49) and Toma Gerasimaite.

Four members of the 22 challenge got lost on the way to Carrickfergus and ended up in Citypark, Craigavon. Not really sure how that happened.

Allan Grant (1st run at Craigavon) was the first Seaparker to finish. Then came Alan Poag, Trevor Lamb (1st run at Craigavon) and Michael Kane (1st run at Craigavon).

And at Derry there was Nikita Murray (1st run at Derry), Glenda Murray (course PB of 29:59), Geraldine Kane (1st run at Derry) & Julie Kelly (1st run at Derry).

At Larne there was Bobbie Irvine, Nicola Irvine (with a course PB of 27:06) and Neill Harper.

Richard Hetherington and Rebecca Tester both attended their first run each at Valley.

Elsewhere Alison Welsh attended her 1st run at Colin Glen and the day before the Great North Run Karen Waring did her 1st run at Newcastle Upon Tyne. Also Kate Delaney attended her 1st run at Portrush and Brendan Rice got a parkrun PB of 19:43 on his 99th parkrun, which was at Victoria.

17th September

It was William Jenkins turn to finish 1st at Carrickfergus on 17th. He was followed by Paul Daniels (parkrun PB of 22:05), Chris Hogg, Patrick Hughes, Emily Smiley (1st lady and parkrun PB of 25:12), Julie-Ann Mitchell, Jonathan Beattie, Bobbie Irvine, Susan Kane (course PB of 29:43), Beverley Kernoghan (parkrun PB of 29:49) & Julie Marshal.

Robert realised early that he needed to wear sunglasses if he was going to run with Alison.

Derek Kane was the first Seaparker to finish at Colin Glen. He was followed by Karen Waring, Trevor Lamb (finished the 22 challenge with his 1st run at Colin Glen), Julie Kelly (1st run at Colin Glen), Michael Kane (1st run at Colin Glen), Carol Downey (1st time at Colin Glen) and Geraldine Kane (1st time at Colin Glen).

At Valley there was Richard Hetherington (with a course PB of 20:22) and Gillian Bell (1st run at Valley). While Gary Craig attended Victoria and Nikita Murray ran for the first time at Waterworks with Glenda Murray & Karen McMaster.

24th September

Richard Craig was 1st over the line at Carrickfergus for the last parkrun of September. He was followed by William Jenkins, Heather Haggan, Catherine Steele, Julie Lyness and Julie-Ann Mitchell.

It was Alan Grant’s turn to finished the 22 challenge with his 1st run at Armagh. Michael Kane was there as his support.

The Murrays bumped into a happy volunteer at Wallace. The first Seaparker to finish was Robert Murray and he was followed by Nikita Murray (1st run at Wallace) and Glenda Murray (with a course PB of 29:11).

Elsewhere Kate Delaney attended her 1st run at Larne, Karen McMaster went to Ormeau, Patrick Hughes achieved a course PB of 24:28 at Valley, Colin McCrum returned to Victoria and Gary Craig ran again at Waterworks.

Andy’s parkrun challenge 2016

Between 26/03/16-29/10/16 participants have 32 weeks to complete three different parkruns, plus volunteer at Carrickfergus (and wear a hi viz vest) at least once. The parkruns are Carrickfergus, Larne and the third one will be any of the participants own choosing. Age grade percentage will decide the winner.

Storming the Castle 2016

Seapark did a dry run of the event on 25/08/16.

Karen McMaster was first to finish. Did she do the whole 10K I wonder?

On a very sunny Sunday 28th August Seapark AC held their 2nd annual Storming the Castle 10K. It was flat, it was scenic and this year it was part of the new Novosco 10K Grand Prix, which is a series of thirteen 10K races across NI from March-November.

The Seapark AC led event was one of the main attractions of Mid & East Antrim Borough Councils Community Sports Festival that took place between Friday 26th-Sunday 28th August 2016 in Carrickfergus.

230 children partook in one of two Chase the Knight kid fun runs prior to the main event. There was a 1K route around the Amphitheatre for 4-9 year olds, while 10-14 year olds had to do 2K. Each race was started by a Knight who the kids had to chase to the finish line.

517 runners (157 more that the first 10K last year) ran the main 10K course in very sunny conditions. Joe Malone was first male home with a time of 35:29 while Amy Bulman was the first female to finish (18th overall) with a time of 38:43.

First Seapark AC male to finish was Richard Craig (4th overall) with a time of 36:41 while Elisoa Crawford was the first Seapark AC female (51st overall) with a time of 41:54.

After collecting their medals at Carrickfergus Castle the athletics retreated to Shaftsbury Park for some well deserved hot dogs, milk,
cake and a lot of spot prizes.

Social media was abuzz with praise soon after the event ended, making particular mentions to the Carrickfergus Senior Gateway club, who where giving out water at the mid way point, the very supportive children in Legg Park and all the paces (who all made their target times of 40, 45, 50, 55, 60 & 70 mins within a few seconds).

All in all it was a great success and hopefully the event will be back for a third year in 2017.

5 club races this year.

The 5K club race was held on 28/06/16.

As people started at different times, dependant on their race handicap, anyone could have finished first. Nicola Dunlop was 1st to finish, Becki Tester 2nd and Jessica Lyness 3rd.

Saturday 30th July was when Seapark AC celebrated the club’s 10 year anniversary by completing the first club 10 mile event. 25 members took part in this historic event.

6th August

It was another busy month with Seapark eating cake all over the place.

At Carrickfergus on 6th August there were Jonathon Bell, Janet McCullough, Jennifer Jackson (with a parkrun PB of 25:17), Catherine Steele, Julie-Ann Mitchell & Toma Gerasimaite.

Comber was attended by Robert Murray (1st run at Comber), Alan Poag (1st run at Comber), Nikita Murray (1st run at Comber), Glenda Murray (with a course PB of 30:00), Geradline Kane (1st run at Comber) & Carol Downey (1st run at Comber).

Valley had its 100th run and their 2nd anniversary cakerun on 6th Aug. Everyone in attendance said they knew nothing about the cake. I believe that. Richard Craig was the 1st one across the new finish line. He was followed by Charlie McCormick, William Jenkins (with a course PB of 20:26), Philip Poag, Karen Poag (with a course PB of 27:46), Trevor Lamb and Michael Kane (1st run at Valley).

The three amigos went to Waterstown the weekend of the Dublin Rock n Roll half. Gavin Irvine, Bobbie Irvine and Neill Harper all attended Waterstown for the first time each.

I just can’t remember which one’s Bodie and which one’s Doyle.

13th August

William Jenkins was the 1st Seaparker home at Carrickfergus on 13th. He was followed by Ian Cleland, Brendan Rice, Jennifer Jackson, Emily Smiley (with a parkrun PB of 25:32) & Julie-Ann Mitchell.

Alan Poag finished his 22 challenge with his 1st run at Enniskillen. He had the company of Neill Harper (with a course PB of 25:29) and Yumi Aoki (on her 1st run at Enniskillen).

20th August

27th August

14 Seaparkers attended Carrickfergus for the last parkrun in August. Richard Craig was 1st over the line (again). Others in attendance included Charlie McCormick, William Jenkins, Richard Hetherington, Colin McCrum, Catherine Steele, Paul Daniels, Julie Ann Mitchell, Bobbie Irvine, Neill Harper, Toma Gerasmaite, Robert Steele, Elise Park (with a parkrun PB of 39:42) and Gavin Irvine.

Like every other week this year Seapark was represented at various parkruns around NI.

Limavady had two Seapark achievements this week. Karen Waring was 1st lady home on her first run at Limavady, while Susan Kane ran her 50th parkrun. Derek Kane was also there, wearing his 22 parkrun winning t-shirt.

Mark Welsh and Alison Welsh both attended Portrush for the first time, the night after the Portrush 5 mile race. Rebecca Tester attended her 1st run at Queens. While Karen McMaster attended Valley. And Brendan Rice achieved course PB of 19:56 at Victoria.

The last bit of cake was ate at the 1st anniversary Stormont cakerun.

Robert Murray achieved a course PB of 20:10 (he must have really wanted to get a slice of cake). He was followed by Trevor Lamb, Michael Kane (1st run at Stormont), Nikita Murray (1st run at Stormont), Glenda Murray and Geraldine Kane (1st run at Stormont). Michael caught up with Trevor at the 4K mark, but Trevor wasn’t having any of it.

Andy’s parkrun challenge 2016

March saw the return of Andy’s parkrun challenge. Between 26/03/16-29/10/16 participants have 32 weeks to complete three different parkruns, plus volunteer at Carrickfergus (and wear a hi viz vest) at least once. The parkruns are Carrickfergus, Larne and the third one will be any of the participants own choosing. Age grade percentage will decide the winner.

2nd July

There were three parkrun PBs at Carrickfergus on 2nd with Thomas Dunlop (24:10), Heather Haggan (24:19) and Nicola Dunlop (30:29). Others in attendance included Richard Craig, Jonathan Preuss, William Jenkins, Ryan Weatherhead, Jonathon Bell, Colin McCrum, Julie-Ann Mitchell, Allan Grant, Neill Harper and Karen Waring.

Allan Grant even completed the course with his arm in plaster. I can’t decide if that shows determination or stupidity? Hmmm.

The big event of the week (if not the month or even the year) was the Glenda Murray vs. Derek Kane showdown for the 22 challenge finish.

Derek Kane completed his 22nd different NI parkrun of 2016 at a very wet Derry City. He was accompanied by Trevor Lamb (1st run at Derry), Alan Poag (1st run at Derry), Michael Kane (1st run at Derry) and Susan Kane (with a course PB 30:18).

While Glenda Murray attended Cookstown for her 22nd different NI parkrun in 2016. Alas, even the bad weather didn’t deter her from finishing.

Nicola Irvine was 1st Lady home (while achieving a parkrun PB of 24:44) at Limavady. Bobbie Irvine was also in attendance to cheer her on.

Elsewhere in NI Gary Craig attended his first run at Victoria and Ronald Simms returned to Wallace.

Karen McMaster attended the infamous Highbury Fields parkrun in London for the first time. It’s infamous for being one of the few parkruns with five laps. You can get lapped twice if you’re not fast enough (three if you’re me).

However, the prize for parkurn tourist goes to Ian Cleland and Sara Johnston for attending the Clermont Waterfront in the USA. Both attended for the 1st time and Ian took 2nd place.

9th July

Richard Craig took the top spot at Carrickfergus on 9th. He was followed by William Jenkins, Jonathan Beattie, Jonathon Bell, Robert Steele, Thomas Dunlop (with a parkrun PB of 23:22), Catherine Steele (with a parkrun PB of 26:14), Colin McCrum, Jacqui Coghlan, Derek Kane, Marie Nicholson, Susan Kane and Neill Harper.

The main bulk of the 22 group went to K2, sorry Armagh. You know it’s a hard one when Bobbie Irvine says it tough.

Bobbie Irvine was the first Seaparker over the line and was followed by Nicole Irvine (with a course PB of 25:01), Trevor Lamb (1st run at Armagh), Alan Poag (1st run at Armagh), Karen Waring (1st run at Armagh), Mark Welsh (1st run at Armagh and running under protest) and Alison Welsh (1st run at Armagh). It may have been at this point that Mark ‘Weak Link’ Welsh decided to drop out of the NI 22 parkrun challenge. More on that later.

A splinter 22 group went to Bangor. They included Robert Murray (1st run at Bangor), Nikita Murray (1st run at Bangor) and Glenda Murray (with a course PB 31:48).

Rebecca Tester attended her 1st run at Comber while Julie Kelly did the same at Larne. Both adding another notch to their 22 parkrun challenges.

Richard Hetherington returned to Portrush and Brendan Rice gave Victoria another try.

And over on the mainland Allan Grant tried his first Gateshead parkrun.

It was Ian Cleland’s turn to take the 1st spot at Carrickfergus on 16th. He was followed by Charlie McCormick, Brendan Rice (with a course PB 20:03), William Jenkins, Robert Steele, Andrew Smyth, Carol Woods, Julie-Ann Mitchell and Julie Marshall.

He was followed by Bobbie Irvine, Jonathon Bell, Philip Poag, Nicola Irvine (with a course PB of 25:58), Karen Waring (with a course PB of 26:23 on her 50th parkrun), Karen Poag, Carol Woods, Marie Nicholson, Karen McMaster, Neill Harper, Geraldine Kane (with a course PB of 31:37) and Carol Downey (who’s been tapering for this timed run all year).

It was Robert Murray’s 100th parkrun on 23rd so a group of Seaparkers went to Cookstown to support him.

Robert Murray was the first Seaparker home (with a course PB of 19:44 on his 100th parkrun) and he was followed by Alan Poag (1st run at Cookstown), Trevor Lamb (1st run at Cookstown), Nikita Murray (with a course PB of 28:23), Rebecca Tester (1st run at Cookstown), Glenda Murray (with a course PB of 29:02) and Michael Kane (1st run at Cookstown and mocked by a sheep as he went around the course). The sheep went Ha Ha (there’s no way it was Ba Ba) every time Michael passed it.

Elsewhere Allan Grant took a trip to Derry, Richard Hetherington attended Portrush, William Jenkins went to Valley, Alison Welsh completed her 1st timed run at Wallace and Colin McCrum returned to the Gunpower parkrun. I wanted to say ‘with a bang’ for that one but unfortunately Colin didn’t even get a course PB so I can’t.

30th July.

It was the first Seapark AC 10 mile handicap at 10:00 so not much parkrunning was going on, but a few still attended a parkrun.

Bobbie Irvine messed up his 10 mile handicap by being the first Seaparker home at Carrickfergus parkurn. He was followed by Allan Grant, Ruth Hawkins, Danielle Hamilton, Karen McMaster and Toma Gerasimaite (with a parkrun PB of 33:52).

Three members of the 22 club went to Queens. Trevor Lamb, Michael Kane (1st run at Queens) & Glenda Murray. Nikita Murray (1st run at Queens) also attended.

Michael had Trevor in his sights for the first 3K, however he wasted that much energy trying to overtake him that by the 3K point he was spent. He never caught up with him in the end and he was thinking it’s just a pity that a parkruns weren’t 3K. All I’m going to say is that he can always try a junior parkrun.

While another two members of the 22 club went to Limavady. Derek Kane and Alan Poag (1st run at Limavady). Susan Kane was also in attendance.

Seapark charity parkrun challenge

Team Blue for the boys and Team Pink for the girls.

Unfortunately Mark Welsh had to drop out of the 22 parkrun challenge for materialistic reasons. It seems that overtime is more important than parkrun. Tut tut. To avoid an automatic forfeit by Team Blue it was decided by both parties that the remaining members of Team Blue will need to complete the rest of Mark’s parkuns. Only one can be counted per week, and only if said person has already completed it themselves for their own challenge.

Robert Murray completed the first of these by doing Cookstown on 23/07/16 and Trevor Lamb did the second by doing Queens on 30/07/16.

As of 30/07/16 there are 23 parkruns left to the end of the year (if you count Christmas Day).

On 5^th 5 Seaparkers completed the Walled City Marathon. Gillian Cordner, Gary Connolly, Bobbie Irvine (3:26:25), Brendan Rice (3:58:14) and Alyn McChesney (6:16:36).

On 7^th June it was the East Antrim Harriers Forest Trail Series – Race 3 in Ballyboley (4 miles). 10 Seaparkers attended. Richard Craig 25:08, Ian Cleland 25:59, Bobbie Irvine 26:24, Robert Murray 27:55, Sara Johnston 35:33, Kate Delaney 35:53, David Steritt 36:49, Nicola Irvine 37:19, Colin Pearson 40:28 & Glenda Murray 40:57.

Ronald Simms went to Shane’s Castle for the St Benedicts 10K on 8^th June. He achieved a time of 40:56.

Ann McCracken was at the Pick & Mix Pairs 10K in Downpatrick on 11^th June. Her time was 59:00.

At the 26 Extreme Mourne Way event in Kilbroney Forest Park on 11^th June Gillian Cordner was the first lady home for the ultra marathon with 9:31:42.

For the marathon there were Ian Cleland with 4:07:47 and Gary Connolly with 4:58:04.

Marie Nicholson completed the half marathon in 2:41:10. While for the 10K Seapark had Jonathan Beattie 43:57, Sara Johnston 1:01:09, Jacqui Coghlan 1:01:46 & Julie Marshall 1:01:47.

However the biggest race of the week had to be the double of the Enniskillen parkrun at 9:30am followed by the Enniskillen 10K at 2:00pm on 11^th. The Lisburn Half and 10K (the 10K was part of the Novosco 10k Grand Prix series) on 15^thwas the big race for this week. Again it was another sunny night for the annual event.

On 18^th Patrick Hughes did the EAMS Knockagh half marathon in 1:53:23.

Richard Hetherington completed the Grant Thornton Runway Run 5K on 23/06/16 in 19:50.

The Ards Half Marathon was on 26/06/16. In attendance were Robert Murray 1:34:52, Julie Cylde 1:58:31, Karen Hanson 2:08:34 PB, Philip Magill 2:20:16, Lynette Magill 2:20:17, Josephine McAlister 2:22:11, Beverley Kernoghan 2:25:13 PB, Lauren Scott 2:27:17 PB, Lorraine Ogibly 2:32:09 PB and Caroline Mone 2:41:02.

Ronald Simms came third overall in the Stormont 10K on 25/06/16 with a time of 42:42. He also took the podium spot for the Stormont parkrun just a few hours before with 19:33.

The NBH Pure Running Divis 10 mile race was also held on 25/06/16. Three Seaparkers completed the course. Philip Poag 1:33:57, Karen Poag 1:35:58 and Neill Harper 1:36:34.

The Energia 24hr race at Victoria Park was on 25/06/16. Bobbie Irivine completed 90 miles in 20 hours. Whilie Gilliam Cordner ran 100.6 miles in 20.5 hours.

4th June.

At Carrickfergus on 4th June we had William Jenkins, Ian Cleland, Elisoa Crawford (1st lady home), Jonathan Beattie, Robert Steele, Sara Johnston (with a parkrun PB of 26:08), Julie Marshall (1st parkrun ever), Catherine Steele (parkrun PB of 26:21), Karen McMaster and Julie-Ann Mitchell.

It was the Derry Marathon on the 5th so a few went down to do the parkrun on the 4th. Everyone got course PBs so whoop whoop to them. 1st Seaparker home was Bobbie Irvine (with a course PB of 19:12). He was quickly followed by Clive Weatherhead (with a course PB of 20:01), Ryan Weatherhead (with a course PB of 20:11) and Nicola Irvine (with a course PB of 25:12).

Mark Welsh and Alison Welsh went to the sunglasses free zone of Limavady for the 1st time each. Alison had posed for various photo ops but for some reason Limavady parkrun only published the non sunglasses shot of Mark on their Facebook page.

Trevor Lamb had suggested that everyone head to Portrush for their 200th event but when no one could see the cake at the start he was nearly lynched by the rest of the group.

Luckily for him there were two cakes (and oranges).

First Seapaker home was Robert Murray (1st run at Portrush). He was 11th overall (yea) but was beat by a kid (ha ha).

Everyone (except Karen) went for ice cream after, and just like the parkrun Glenda finished last.

Queens had Gary Craig (course PB of 25:11), Philip Poag (1st run at Queens), Karen Poag and Ross Gilmore (1st run at Queens).

Elsewhere Ann McCracken completed another timed run at Victoria plus Michael Kane and Geraldine Kane attended their 1st run each at Waterworks.

Richard Craig (with a parkrun PB of 18:03) was first over the line at Carrickfergus on 11th. He was followed by William Jenkins, Clive Weatherhead, Charlie McCormick, Ryan Weatherhead, Jonathon Bell, Janet McCullough (with a parkrun PB of 24:04), Thomas Dunlop (parkrun PB of 26:21), Catherine Steele, Julie Lyness (parkrun PB of 27:15), Julie-Ann Mitchell, Jenny Robinson and Nicola Dunlop (parkrun PB of 32:12).

Some idiot thought that if people had to go to Enniskillen for a parkrun (for the 22 parkrun challenge) they might as well do it on the day of the Enniskillen 10K and do that as well. So on 11th June 16 Seapark members woke at the craic of dawn and travelled to the Enniskillen parkrun for the first time each. Some, but not all completed the 10K after. Seapark is now the 4th largest club to appear on the Enniskillen parkrun results. Ronald Simms has the 35th fastest time overall for the Enniskillen parkrun and for 11th June four Seapark members came in the top ten. Ronald Simms (2nd & with a parkrun PB of 18:37), Bobbie Irvine (3rd & with a parkrun PB of 19:00), Robert Murray (4th) and Mark Welsh (8th).

Though Ronald Simms took a wrong turn in the end and came in short at just over 3 miles. If that wasn’t bad enough Bobbie Irvine just followed him and he too completed just over 3 miles. Technically Robert Murray was the first Seaparker home and the jury is out on whether Bobbie’s run counts as part of the 22 challenge.

William Jenkins took the podium spot at Carrickfergus. He was followed by Clive Weatherhead, Brendan Rice, Jonathan Beattie, Paul Daniels, Andrew Smyth (with a parkrun PB of 23:44), Janet McCullough (with a parkrun PB of 24:02), Julie Kelly (who achieved a course PB of 27:59), Karen McMaster, Julie-Ann Mitchell and Susan Kane (with a course PB of 30:55).

I do need to point out that Julie Kelly’s course PB of 27:59 was achieved with a broken toe. She mustn’t have been trying hard enough before now if she can get a PB with a broken toe. Just saying.

While Derek Kane attended Cookstown for the first time. He nearly didn’t make it due to roadworks (but some might say Glenda Murray threw a spanner in the works, but not me) but he got there just in time.

It was Bobbie Irvine’s 150th parkrun (or 149th if you’ve voted to make Enniskillen void). He attended Falls with Mark Welsh (1st run at Falls), Nicola Irvine (1st run at Falls) and Alison Welsh.

Five Seaparkers went to Limavady for the 1st time each. It was top 40 places for everyone involved. Robert Murray was 5th overall with a parkrun PB of 19:43. He was followed by Trevor Lamb (35th), Geraldine Kane (38th), Michael Kane (39th) and Glenda Murray (40th).

Colin McCrum was at Ormeau on his own. If he checked Facebook once in a while he could have went to one of the other parkruns with actually people instead of going to Ormeau on his own.

Nicola Dunlop achieved a parkrun PB of 31:13 on her first run at Queens.

The 2nd podium spot of the week went to Ian Cleland at Valley.

At Waterworks we had Ronald Simms (1st run at Waterworks), Heather Haggan (1st run at Waterworks with a parkrun PB of 24:33), Gary Craig and Ross Gilmore.

And over on the mainland Elise Park and Gavin Irvine ran at Hull.

25th June.

Ryan Weatherhead was the first Seaparker home at Carrickfergus on 25th. He was followed by Brendan Rice (with a course PB of 20:19), Richard Hetherington, Paul Daniels, Gillian Strudwick (with a parkrun PB of 23:05), Catherine Steele, Julie Lyness, Julie-Ann Mitchell and Marie Nicholson.

Karen McMaster maintained her race to 100 lead by attending Antrim (with a course PB of 28:57).

Four went to Armagh for the 1st time each for the 22 challenge. Derek Kane and Glenda Murray are now on 21 (out of 22, doh!) thanks to this little trip. They were accompanied by Robert Murray and Susan Kane.

Since Trevor Lamb knew he wasn’t going to finish first in the 22 challenge he decided to go were the cake was instead and attend the Ormeau 3rd annual cakerun. He was accompanied by Michael Kane (1st run at Ormeau) and Geraldine Kane (1st run at Ormeau). This now means that Michael isn’t in last place for Team Blue (more on that later) in the race to complete the 22 parkrun challenge & now Mark Welsh is the weak link. Shame on you Mark!

Elsewhere Bobbie Irvine used the Victoria parkrun as a warm-up for the Energia 24 hour race at Victoria Park. You would think his misses would have been there to support him, but no, Nicole Irvine went to Waterworks (with a course PB of 26:20) to add another notch to her 22 parkrun challenge. Gary Craig (with a course PB of 24:12) also attended Waterworks.

While two further podium spots were achieved by Seapark on 25th. Richard Craig at Valley and Ronald Simms at Stormont. Ronald was only using Stormont parkrun as a warm-up for the Stormont 10K later that same day. He came third in that race.

The winners will get a prize while the losers will do a forfeit (decided by the winners, within reason of course).

On Saturday 7^th May Ronald Simms completed the Killclogher 10K near Ormagh with a time of 39:39.

Sunday 8^th May Gavin Irvine attended the Beverly 10K just outside of Hull. He clocked a time of 52:23 in a 25 degree heat.

At the Les Jones 10K on 13^th Seapark AC was represented by Ronald Simms 39:59, Clive Weatherhead 41:55, Richard Hetherington 42:32, Elisoa Crawford 42:49, Jennifer Jackson 52:03, Andrew Smyth 52:39, Alison Welsh 55:53, Mark Welsh 55:39, Julie Kelly 59:18 and Trevor Lamb 1:00:57.

On Saturday 14^th Ronald Simms ran another 10K (the Lislea 10K) with 42:34 while at the Kilarney Marathon Gillian Cordner was the 2nd lady across the line with 3:29:59 and Gary Connolly finished with 4:19:53.

Ronald Simms also completed the Annaghmore 10K in 40:36 on 18^th May.

Richard Craig ran the 4 mile Albertvile Road Race in 23:35 on 20^th May.

While the biggest race of the week had to be the Run Her Costal Challange on 20^th May.

Sarah Rea completed the 5K in 26:02, finishing 11.

While in the 10K event Seapark was represented by Kate Delaney 52:54, Alison Welsh 55:49, Jacqui Coghlan 56:06, Julie Marshall 56:07, Marie Nicholson 59:36, Rebecca Tester 1:01:01, Emma Person 1:05:59 and Susan Kane 1:09:31.

The Jengana 10K on 21^st was the stage for the second race of the week for both Richard Craig 39:00 and Ronald Simms 41:31.

And at the Hell & Back race, also on 21^st May, described as Ireland’s toughest mental & physical endurance challenge, where Ian Cleland, Robert Murray, Sara Johnston and Glenda Murray. No times are needed. To complete it is enough.

Neill Harper achieved his second best time for a marathon with 4:17:19 at the Kent Roadrunner Marathon.

Thanks to the Ballyclare 10K Geraldine Kane was the first person to complete the 10 * 10K 2016 challenge. It may have to be extended to 20 * 10k 2016 challenge as she completed it so fast.

On Sunday it was the Liverpool Rock N Roll Half and Full Marathon.

The original plan for the 22 group was to head to Colin Glen (since it’s the year of hills and all) but the thought of that scared some people and they backed out at the last moment (insert your own PG expletive here). Those that embraced the hill at Colin Glen were Bobbie Irvine (with a course PB of 19:57), Paul Daniels (1st run at Colin Glen), Allan Grant (1st run at Colin Glen), Derek Kane (1st run at Colin Glen), Alan Poag (1st run at Colin Glen) and Susan Kane (1st run at Colin Glen).

While the hill challenged group decided to go to Comber instead. They consisted off Mark Welsh (1^st run at Comber), Alison Welsh (1^st run at Comber), Julie Kelly (parkrun PB of 27:51 at her 1^st run at Comber) and Michael Kane (1^strun at Comber). They should have just ripped that band aid off as they still need to go to Colin Glen to complete the 22 challenge.

Rebecca Tester had planned to go to the Falls parkrun on 7^th but on route she and Conor Sheridan had a little scare as they got a flat tire. They were both okay and managed to fix the tire but being hard-core parkrun participants it didn’t deter them from completing a parkrun. They had worked out the nearest parkrun to them at that time was Ormeau so they headed there, making it just in time (or JIT for the Economists among you) for Rebecca’s 1st run at Ormeau. Lucky for them the Ormeau briefing ran long.

Elsewhere there was Karen Waring on her 1^st run at Falls, Ann McCracken (with a course PB of 28:19) and Karen McMaster (with a parkrun PB of 29:05) at Queens, Colin McCrum at the Victoria cakerun, Gary Craig and Ross Gillmore at Waterworks, Robert Steel on his 1^strun at Kilkenny and Gavin Irvine at Hull.

There were a few PBs at Carrickfergus on 14^th. In attendance were Richard Craig, Charlie McCormick (with a course PB of 19:09), William Jenkins, Ryan Weatherhead, Jonathan Beattie, Clive Weatherhead, Jonathon Bell (parkrun PB of 21:47), Richard Hetherington, Philip Poag, Sara Johnston (parkrun PB of 26:34), Jessica Lyness (parkrun PB of 27:33), Catherine Steele (parkrun PB of 27:42), Gemma Lovell, Julie Lyness, Neill Harper and Susan Kane.

Some of the 22 group made it to the Falls parkrun (and would you Adam and Eve it there were not one, but two cakes). Those that had a slice included Robert Murray (1st run at Falls), Alan Poag (1st run at Falls), Trevor Lamb, Glenda Murray (1st run at Falls) and Rebecca Tester (1st run at Falls).

Ronald Simms completed his 1st run at Armagh prior to doing the Lislea 10K (and after doing the Les Jones 10K the night before). While at Cookstown there was Bobbie Irvine (with a course PB of 19:06) and Nicola Irvine (on her 1st run at Cookstown and with a parkrun PB of 25:09). Other parkruns attended included Colin McCrum at Portrush, Brendan Rice, Ann McCracken and Karen McMaster at Victoria, Gary Craig (with a parkrun PB of 24:13) at Waterworks and Gavin Irvine at Hull.

21^stMay.

Charlie McCormick was the first Seaparker to cross the finish line at Carrickfergus on 21^st. He was followed by Paul Daniels, William Jenkins, Richard Hetherington, Andrew Smyth, Philip Poag, Karen Poag, Laura Laverty (with a parkrun PB of 26:10), Jessica Lyness (with another parkrun PB of 27:04), Catherine Steel (with a parkrun PB of 27:35), Karen McMaster, Alison Welsh, Neill Harper and Jonathan Beattie.

Neill turned up late but still managed to finish before Jonathan Beattie. All that cycling must be slowing Jonathan down.

It appears that no one likes cake as much as they used to as the planned road trip to Cookstown’s 3^rd anniversary cakerun on 21/05/16 fell though. Most people had prior commitments (yea, yea) so instead of traveling to Cookstown on their own Trevor Lamb and Derek Kane (1^st run) went to a surprisingly sunny Bangor. They should have took their sunglasses.

While that was going one Rebecca Tester completed Larne for the 2^nd time, Brendan Rice returned to Victoria and at Derry we had Ian Cleland (on his 75^th parkrun and 1^strun at Derry), Robert Murray (1st run at Derry), Sara Johnson (1st run at Derry) and Glenda Murray (1st run at Derry) completing the parkrun prior to the Hell and Back race soon after.

Bobbie Irvine (with a parkrun PB of 19:54) and Nicola Irvine (with another parkrun PB of 26:03) both attended the Portobello parkrun in Edinburgh.

28^stMay.

With the Ballyclare 10K, Liverpool Rock N Roll 5K and the Kent Roadrunner Marathon all on the 28^th only thirteen Seaparkers managed to complete a parkrun on 28^th May.

Carrickfergus was attended by Jonathan Preuss, Richard Hetherington, Gary Craig (with a course PB of 24:52) and Julie-Ann Mitchell.

Robert Murray and Glenda Murray decided to embrace the hill at Colin Glen for the first time each.

Elsewhere Thomas Dunlop attended Ormeau for the first time (with a parkrun PB of 24:34) and Brendan Rice did his first timed run at Limavady.

And last but not least Karen McMaster dropped out of the Ballyclare 10K to keep her lead in the Race to 100 challenge and attended Whitley Bay for the second time (with a course PB of 28:47 + only 5 secs of her parkrun PB) instead.

Andy’s parkrun challenge 2016.

March saw the return of Andy’s parkrun challenge. Between 26/03/16-29/10/16 participants have 32 weeks to complete three different parkruns, plus volunteer at Carrickfergus at least once. The parkruns are Carrickfergus, Larne and the third one will be any of the participants own choosing. Age grade percentage will decide the winner.

Thanks to Nicola Irvine giving Andy Smyth the evil eye until he changed his mind anyone doing any volunteer role at Carrickfergus (while wearing a hi-viz top) will get a credit towards the challenge. Nicola was doing token support and Trevor Lamb was acting as photographer when they saw that Andy’s guidelines stated that these volunteer roles didn’t count. He soon learned his mistake and changed his mind.
