History
Seapark AC is an established running club, based and founded in Carrickfergus by a small group of runners with the same like minded ideas. Since 2007 the Club has enjoyed a renaissance bought about by the increased level of interest and popularity of running.
Aims
The object of the club is to promote all forms of running and racing.
Training
Members meet on Tuesday and Thursday evenings at 7pm at Carrickfergus Leisure Centre (Amphitheatre).
Tuesday nights training tends to focus on group sessions and include short faster pace running and hill work, specifically designed to develop speed and stamina. Thursday nights tend to consist of continuous training runs and are aimed at developing strength and endurance. Groups on both nights are organised based on pace and ability and we fully cater for all club members regardless of individual ability, we also organise other ad hoc meetings and weekend runs to help assist in the preperation of taking part in races..
We have members who have completed in national and international marathons, ultramarathons and multiday marathon events, so we are able to offer advice on all aspects of running.
In pursuit of its aims Seapark AC also deliver the Jog Carrickfergus programme which is suitable for those that want to start running for the first time or to return after a break. The 10 week programme uses a walk/jog/run approach achieving a continuous 5k distance by the end of week 10.
Races
The Club has its own members annual handicap race series which is structured to provide everyone with the opportunity to improve their times at 5k, 5 mile and 10k distances as well as a shorter 2.75 mile trail race. The Club are very keen to support other local running groups and regularly attend local races as well as races throughout Ireland, the UK and Europe.
